Question: Can a business's trade name be protected as a trademark?

Answer:
The name that a company uses to identify itself is called a trade name. This is the name the business uses on its letterhead and signage. Trade name is not considered a trademark or entitled to protection under trademark laws.

Question: How are characters like a hypen treated in a tradmark?

Answer:
The pronunciation of the trademark is the most controlling factor. So whether or not similar marks have dashes separating elements of one or the other mark wouldn't make much difference in deciding.

Question: What is TDR?

Answer:
TDR is the Trademark Document Retrieval system. TDR displays the electronic file wrapper of U.S. Trademark applications and applications for Extensions of Protection, as well as U.S. Trademark Registrations.
